The golf swing starts with consistency

Golf is a game that requires many different skill sets. One of which is consistency. I am not talking about a consistent ball flight or a level head. I am talking about the easy and most important stuff to be consistent at. There are no excuses for not being able to do the little things the same on every attempt. Your grip, alignment, and most importantly your pre shot routine should be the same every time. How do you build this consistency? Here are few tips to get you going in the right direction.

The grip- This is a sensitive area for some instructors some think there is no “right” way to grip it, but there is one part of the grip that every great player has always done. Tension is a no-no. You must not hold the club any tighter than you would hold a soft stick of butter. Why? If you want to create effortless clubhead speed you need to be relaxed and tension free. Think of a whip. If the whip was rigid it could not create the speed necessary to break the sound barrier. But because the whip is relaxed and loose it can travel at a much higher rate of speed. You could relate the tension free feeling to throwing a punch. If you were to flex your muscles as you attempted to throw a punch you will notice how slow and weak the punch would be. Now try keeping your arm very relaxed and loose and throwing a punch. It is much easier to produce speed and power from a relaxed loose arm than a stiff flexed arm. Being tension free is the one of the most important parts of the grip and if you are tension free at your hands the rest of your body will follow.

Alignment- Alignment can be attributed to more than 80% of all bad shots. First you have to understand how your brain works with alighnment. If you are aligned to far to either direction your going to compensate with out even knowing it. That is just the way you work, your eyes see where you want to ball to go and your body is going to put you in the positions necessary to get the ball going at your target. The problem is most people align themselves closed to the target. This is going to make you come over the top and across the ball 9 out of 10 times. This is why so many golfers slice the ball the occasionally hit a big pull that don’t slice back, "The Dreaded Straight Ball".
How can you fix this? Its easy, listen to Jack Nicklaus! Pick a spot in front of your ball no further than a foot and half away that is on your intended target line. Now align yourself to that spot and trust it. This is going to take some practice and should be done on the driving range until you are comfortable enough to use it on the course. I guarantee if you fix your alignment you will start hitting much more clean consistent shots.

Pre shot routine- This is something you need to create on your own but is vital to the consistency of your golf game. It does not matter how long or short your routine is, it only matters that you execute it correctly and the same every time. You can watch 20 minutes of the PGA tour and notice how every player has their own pre shot routine they use before every shot that never changes. The routine puts you in a familiar starting point every time. Familiarity makes us comfortable. There is no better feeling than being comfortable on the golf course.

Unique Golf in Las Vegas

Las Vegas has three very unique golf courses that bring you the best from around the world. Angel Park Cloud Nine, Royal Links Golf Club, and Bears Best Golf Club Las Vegas. All three courses were maticulously designed to mimic their famous counterparts. Play any of the three for a unforgettable day of golf.

First there came along a great par three course at Angel Park Golf Resort called the Cloud Nine. The Cloud Nine is 12 holes during the day and 9 holes at night. The course is a compilation of the most famous par threes from around the world. The Valley of Sin, the Island Green at TPC Sawgrass, The Postage Stamp, and the 6th hole at Riviera (complete with the bunker in the middle green).

Next came along Royal Links Golf Club. Royal links is an exciting trip through the most famous British Open holes meticulously replicated by Dye International. Holes like The Road Hole and the infamous hell bunker at the old course at Saint Andrews. Long heather grasses, rolling pot bunker filled fairways, and a caddy make this a true links golf experience.

And last but certainly not least Jack Nicklaus put his mark on Las Vegas with his signature designed Bears Best Las Vegas. Bears Best is a compilation of Jack Nicklaus’s favorite holes he designed west of the Mississippi. Bears Best is one of the Valley’s best golf courses. Being a Nicklaus Signature Course it is maintained to the highest degree. The course is always perfectly manicured from tee to green. There are holes from Cabo del Sol in Mexico, Castle Pines in Colorado, Nicklaus Tournament Course at PGA West in Palm Springs, and two very distinct holes from Old Works in Montana. The two holes from Old Works number 4 and number 11 are amazing. Black slag was used for waste areas and bunkers from the copper mines in Anaconda Montana that give the holes a look not seen anywhere else. Recently Voted "Best Places to Play" by Golf Digest magazine and "Best Golf Course in Las Vegas" by the Las Vegas Review Journal.
